ABOUT US

ABOUT US
SECOND GENERATION FAITH
We are a research-led platform exploring the Christian religious experiences of second-generation Black British Nigerians and other Africans in the UK. Our work sits at the intersection of faith, race, identity, and social mobility, with a particular focus on Pentecostal church communities.
While many young people of Nigerian descent remain deeply committed to Christianity, their experiences within church spaces are far from uniform. For some, church continues to be a place of belonging and spiritual grounding. For others, it has become a space marked by quiet tension — where worship styles, sermons, and leadership priorities do not always reflect the realities of growing up Black, British, and Nigerian.
Our platform was created to make sense of these often-unspoken experiences.
Who We Are
We share research-informed writing and lived experiences that encourage dialogue between generations and help Nigerian and other African churches remain relevant to younger members.
Our Mission
To create a thoughtful space for exploring how second-generation Black British Nigerians navigate faith, identity, and belonging, and how intergenerational dynamics are shaping the future of diaspora churches.
Our Vision
We envision diaspora churches where faith resonates with contemporary realities and the next generation feels both spiritually rooted and socially understood.
SOME REASONS TO WORK TOGETHER
What We Do
Our approach values nuance, empathy, and critical reflection. This is not a platform for criticism from the outside, but for thoughtful engagement from within.
01. Publish research-based and reflective blog content.
02. Centre the voices and lived experiences of second-generation African Christians.
03. Encourage intergenerational dialogue within church communities.
04. Examine pathways for churches to remain spiritually grounded and socially relevant.
