Faith, Identity, and Belonging in the Nigerian Diaspora

Exploring the lived experiences of second-generation Black British Nigerian Pentecostals

Across Britain, many young people of Nigerian descent remain deeply committed to their Christian faith. They attend church regularly, participate in worship, and carry the expectations of being the next generation of church leaders. Yet beneath this commitment, quieter questions are emerging.

We are a research-led platform exploring the Christian religious experiences of second-generation Black British Nigerians and other Africans in the UK. Our work sits at the intersection of faith, race, identity, and social mobility, with a particular focus on Pentecostal church communities.

Why This Conversation Matters

History offers important lessons. Caribbean Pentecostal churches in Britain have faced similar generational shifts, where unaddressed tensions contributed to declining youth engagement and long-term institutional change. Nigerian and wider African churches now stand at a similar crossroads.

An Interactive Space for Reflection and Dialogue

This research forms the foundation of an upcoming interactive blog dedicated to exploring these questions openly and collaboratively.
